Mail Service Mules

Thanks to advances in technology over the last few decades, mail service deliveries are quicker and more efficient than any time in history. Whether it be by ground or air, delivering mail to someone is far easier than it has ever been. Taking this into account, some may be surprised to learn that there is a small village in the United States where mail can only be delivered on the backs of mules.

“Na-nuu, na-nuu” was the catchphrase of Mork from Mork & Mindy, a visitor to Earth from planet Ork. While it may not quite be in outer space, the small village of Supai in Arizona is still one of the most remote places in the United States. Sitting in the heart of the Havasupai Nation Indian reservation, this small village is eight miles away from the nearest road and is the only place in the country where mail service still utilizes mules as a means of delivery. After driving into the Havasupai reservation, mail service workers load up their array of packages and letters onto the backs of a team of mules and begin their journey through the winding canyon roads. While the tiny village is hidden away at the bottom of Havasu Canyon, it still sees thousands of visitors every year.
